Exercises to Increase Range of Motion and Efficiency in your Swing
I do not believe in only one way to swing a club, rather in an infinite number of swing styles. However, I do believe there is one efficient way for every player to swing and it is based on what the player can physically do. Golfers will benefit the most from a healthy and efficient body.
Here are a few of my favourite exercises to help you on your path to achieve an efficient swing:
Figure 4 Walking Hip Stretch – This is a great exercise to open up your hip joints and increase flexibility in your hips. Standing on your right leg, grab your left ankle and try to lift your foot up to your waist. Give a little pull up and return your left foot down to the ground. Repeat on the other side.
Alternating Supermans – This exercise helps develop stability in the lower back and mobility in the spine, hips and shoulders. Lie face down with your arms extended over your head (looks like superman flying through the sky). Engage your core and begin by raising your right arm and left leg simultaneously. Lower them back and now lift your left arm and right leg. Repeat back and forth. Try to keep your core engaged, working on extension in your shoulders and hip without arching your back.
Give these exercises a go to help increase your range of motion and to build yourself a more efficient golf swing.
Have fun, Matt Truong
