If you are struggling to find balance in your swing , or have lost the rhythm or tempo of your swing, or you know things are ‘relocating’ instead of ‘rotating’, then you need to spend some time with one of the most tried, tested and proving drills of them all…. swing with your feet together. Start with a nine iron and a regular address position but put your feet right together before you swing. You will be forced to slow down and swing smoothly or you will lose balance and fall. Begin with trying to make perfect scuffs on the ground and then try hitting some balls with the ball positioned right out in the middle of your vary narrow stance. Try not to be too surprised at how far you can still hit the ball from this feet together position but remember that the focus is to make good solid balanced contact. Very few drills can do as much to slow you down and smooth you out as hitting balls with your feet together. You can also adopt a ‘narrow stance’ in your address position as an emergency fix when things go wrong in the middle of a round. You should use this drill on a regular basis as part of your normal practice regime as well as part of your pre round warm up.
